About Lufthansa
Lufthansa is the largest airline in Germany and also the largest airline in Europe in terms of fleet size. A consistent favorite for travelers, Lufthansa has been awarded as the Best Airline in Europe and Best Airline for Business Travellers. Its frequent flyer program is called Miles & More with benefits ranging from free flights, upgrades and rental car and hotel credits. Lufthansa has a comprehensive network via its hubs in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Munich, Zurich, and Vienna. It is also a founding member of the Star Alliance. Lufthansa operates flights to 18 domestic destinations and 197 international destinations in 78 countries across Africa, Americas, Asia, and Europe. Lufthansa gives you a choice of checking-in conveniently online, via your mobile device or at a check-in machine at selected airports. You can receive your boarding pass via email or text message. Automated check-in can be done 23 hours before departure. Lufthansa also offers a late-night check-in service at selected airports which allows you to check in your baggage the evening before your flight. If you are checking in personally at the airport counters, do note that check-in procedures must be completed 40-60 minutes before the flight. Do have your last name, booking reference, Miles & More card, the credit card used for booking, passport and visas (if applicable) ready for a hassle-free check-in.
Seat reservation on intercontinental flights is free of charge for passengers in Premium Economy Class as well as in Business and First Class. For Economy Class Passengers, seat selection is available for a fee. You can reserve your preferred seat directly when booking your flight or later at Lufthansa’s website under My Bookings. Choosing the remaining available seats at the check-in counters before the flight, however, is free. For long haul flights, three or four cabin classes are offered. The First Class section has the open suite; Business Class will have 180-degree flat-bed seats, Premium Economy will have recliner seats while Economy Class will have standard seats.
Economy and Premium Economy passengers are entitled to 1 carry-on bag up to 8 kilograms. Business and First Class can bring two carry-on bags with a maximum combined weight of 16 kilograms. Passengers to international destinations have checked baggage allowances depending on seat class. Economy class has one bag at 23 kilograms, while Premium Economy Class are allowed two bags at 23 kilograms. Business Class has an allowance of 2 bags at 32 kilograms, while a First Class passenger can check in 3 bags at 32 kilograms each. Excess baggage will be charged fees, depending on the size and weight.
Complimentary in-flight meals on First and Business Class is prepared by Michelin-star chefs, while Economy and Premium Economy classes can enjoy a 3-course meal on long routes and a snack on short-haul flights. Kids’ meals offered are Special meals such as Muslim, Kosher, Hindu (non-vegetarian), vegetarian, diabetic and children’s meals are also available for pre-order 24 hours before.
For in-flight entertainment, Lufthansa offers a broad range of movies in eight languages, including kid-friendly options, along with audiobooks and music. First and Business Class seats on long-haul flights are equipped with in-seat power and Wi-Fi. The system also has “Kids Fun” programming that includes movies, music, and audiobooks for kids.
