Situated about nine miles from the Davao City center, Francisco Bangoy International Airport – or Davao Airport – is the gateway to the island of Mindano. It is the busiest airport on this island, handling flights to and from major cities in Asia and around the Philippines. The Airport has one passenger terminal.
Heralded as one of the safest and crime-free cities in the Philippines, Davao is home to a growing community of cosmopolitan residents. English and Tagalog are widely used here. The city has been given a high livability index, with many visitors and migrants coming here to enjoy a mix of fast-paced urban life and laid-back serenity. Keep in mind that Davao has an anti-smoking ordinance – smoking is allowed only in designated smoking areas. Do also take note that the city also has a liquor ban from 1am to 8am.
Davao Airport is only 20 minutes from the city by a taxi or jeepney. While taxis can drop you immediately in front of the airport, jeepneys can only stop along Diversion Road, a 10-minute walk from the Airport. Remember that fares must be negotiated before the ride begins. If you prefer to drive, there are car hire services available in the city.
Sasa Ferry Wharf
Just a short distance from Davao Airport is Sasa Ferry Wharf, where you can hop on a 10-minute ferry ride to Bluejaz Beach Resort and Waterpark on Samal Island. Here, dip into the clear freshwater pools and lounge on the pearly sands of the private beach; or, for a more thrilling experience, the resort also offers water skiing, kayaking, wakeboarding, snorkelling, and diving facilities. Then, retire into the comfort of the Fiji-style cottages waiting on land.
Venture deeper into Samal Island to uncover its secluded wonders. Scale sky-high mountains, spelunk enchanting caves, and learn about the mystery of the time-bending Mount Puting Bato.
Gumamela Caverock Farm Resort
Lying just outside Davao City is Gumamela Caverock Farm Resort, a scenic little spot surrounded by a sweeping rainforest. Inside, springs and a creek trickle by Japanese Imperial Army caves, and Bagobo-inspired sculptures line the paths. The Resort offers a string of unique modern cottages elegantly modeled after native huts, designed exclusively by local artisans. Travelers can get here by car, taxi, motorcycle, or jeepney from the Mintal Public Market Terminal.
Davao Airport serves a number of international flights. Hop on a Bourag Indonesia Airlines flight to Manado, Indonesia. Bourag Indonesia Airlines also flies from Davao Airport to Hong Kong, the technicolor mecca of retail and dining delights. Join the never-ending crowds coursing through Kowloon City, take a few afternoons off in the classy bars in Hong Kong Island, or take in the calming vista by Lantau Island’s giant Tian Tan Buddha.
