AirAsia Zest is an airline formerly known as Asian Spirit and Zest Air. Owned by Zest Airways, Inc., the airline is based at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila, Philippines. This low-cost airline also has two other hubs namely, Cebu City's Mactan-Cebu International Airport and Kalibo International Airport in Aklan. The airline prides itself in offering the cheapest flights to destinations across Asia.


AirAsia Zest operates both domestic and international flights that connect Manila and Cebu to over 20 domestic destinations and several international destinations such as Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, Shanghai in China and Seoul in Korea.


AirAsia Zest started operations in April 1996 as Asian Spirit becoming the fourth flag carrier in the Philippines after Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and PAL Express. In 2008, Asian Spirit rebranded to become Zest Airways. After 5 years, with a swap agreement with Philippines AirAsia, the airline rebranded again to the current name of AirAsia Zest.

Ways to Check-in

Online check-in is available for confirmed bookings that are more than an hour up to 14 days before departure. Make sure to have your booking number with you to check-in through the website. You can also choose to add or edit travel add-ons such as seating and baggage allowance when you check-in. Please note that online check-in is not available for some guests including those traveling with infants, below 16 years old and traveling alone, pregnant guests, those with special needs and medical conditions or illnesses.


AirAsia Zest offers several options to save or print your boarding passes. You can opt to print directly or if you don’t have a printer available, receive a 2D barcode via SMS or send to email to print at the airport. Take note that 2D barcode is only applicable for airports that have 2D barcode scanners so be sure to check your local airport for information.


At the airport, proceed to the document check counter at least 1 hour before departure if you don’t have baggage to check-in. If you have check-in baggage, proceed to the baggage drop counter 3 hours to an hour before departure. Remember to bring your boarding pass, passport or identification and visa documents, if applicable.


Baggage Allowances and Fees

AirAsia Zest is a low-cost airline. As such, all checked baggage should be pre-purchased either when booking your flight or any time before departure through the website. It is best to purchase ahead to avail of discounted rates. Standard rates will apply at airport check-in counters. Baggage allowance is available to purchase from 15 to 40 kilograms in increments of 5 before departure date. You can only purchase up to 15 kilograms at the airport counters.


Baggage fees also vary depending on when you purchase and on your destination. For domestic flights, if you purchase during initial booking, baggage fees start from Php250 to Php1,700 (US$5 to US$37). After initial booking, from Php288 to Php1,955 (US$6 to US$43) and at the airport counter, baggage fee is Php800 (US$17) up to 15 kilograms. Fees for excess baggage will be charged at Php360 (US$8) for each kilogram.


For international flights, purchasing checked-in baggage during initial booking will start from Php800 to Php2,600 (US$17 to US$56). After initial booking, from Php920 to Php2,990 (US$19 to US$65) and at the airport counter, baggage fee is Php1,050 (US$22) up to 15 kilograms. Excess baggage fees for international destinations will cost Php650 (US$14) per kilogram.

Most AirAsia Zest flights operate on full economy class. However, passengers are given an option to choose between a standard seat or a preferred seat or AirAsia Zest calls it, a ‘Hot Seat’. Flights on the A330 aircraft offer an additional class, the premium class, aboard their flights.


Hot Seats are all exit rows and the first 5 rows in the A320 aircraft or the first row of an A330 aircraft. In the A320 aircraft, each Hot Seat comes with a 29-degree seat pitch with a 16-17" seat width. Rows 1, 12 and 14 have a legroom of 20.3". Meanwhile, standard seats come with 28-degree seat pitch and the same 16-17" seat width. Do note that rows 11, 12 and 31 are non-reclinable.


In the A330 aircraft, each Hot Seat comes with a 31-degree seat pitch and a 16.33” seat width. A 22” legroom is also provided for Hot Seats. Standard seats come with the same seat pitch and width but with less legroom. The A330 also provides the option to purchase a Premium Flatbed which is located in Premium Class, the first two rows of the cabin. Each Premium Flatbed comes with a 59-degree search pitch and a 19” seat width. The seat reclines to a fully flat bed and comes with a 31.7” legroom. Additional features include a universal power socket, personal reading light and adjustable head and foot rests.


Passengers who pre-book premium class and Hot Seats get priority boarding. Those in Premium Class can avail of priority check-in and baggage delivery.


In-flight Services

AirAsia Zest offers a selection of hot and cold meals comprising of Asian and international cuisines. Vegetarian options are also available. Meals are offered only on flights that are more than 75 minutes. For flights less than 75 minutes, only snacks will be available.


It is best to pre-book your meal before the flight to avoid the disappointment of not having your choice meal available and for greater discounts. Do note that pre-booking meals or changes to pre-booked meals are only available more than 24 hours before departure. Remember to keep your boarding pass handy as this is proof of purchase to be presented to the cabin crew when redeeming your meal.


In-flight entertainment is not available on AirAsia Zest flights. It is only currently available on AirAsia X flights to and from Australia. Duty-free shopping and purchase of AirAsia merchandise are available onboard.
