Gulf Air is the national flag carrier of Bahrain. The airline was founded in 1950 as Gulf Aviation and was one of the first commercial airlines established in the Middle East. Headquartered in Muharraq, just next to the Bahrain International Airport, Gulf Air operates scheduled flights to 41 cities in 23 countries, spanning across different continents in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. As of 20 Sep 2017, Gulf Air has reported that it would increase its flight offering to Istanbul with daily flight on this key route going to be available from November 2017. This is due to the rising demand in this route, and a celebration of its 30th anniversary of offering direct nonstop services to and from Istanbul in Turkey. This will strengthen air connectivity between Bahrain and Turkey and allow it to further develop travel, trade, tourism and other related industries between the two nations.

Gulf Air offers premium airline services for business travelers, with its "Falcon Gold Cabin", a single premium cabin and with new flat beds, allowing its passengers the highest level of comfort and rest on board their flights.
