Pakistan International Airlines commonly known as PIA is the flag carrier of Pakistan. Its main hub is in Karachi at Jinnah International Airport, while Lahore and Islamabad are its secondary hubs. Founded back in 1946, then named Orient Airways, the airline was originally based in Calcutta before being nationalized and renamed to Pakistan International Airlines in early 1955. PIA was the distinction of being the first Asian airlines to fly the Lockheed Super Constellation as well as being known as the first non-communist airline to have flown to China. It was also the second Asian airline to purchase a Boeing 707 and the first customer for the Boeing 777-200LR. Ways To Check-In

Online check-in service is currently available for domestic flights between Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. Online check-in is available on PIA’s website and through its mobile apps. Passengers should be at the check-in counter for baggage drop off at least 45 minutes before the flight departure time due to security checks at the airport. Other methods of checking in for your PIA flight are the City Check-In facility, which enables you to get your Boarding Pass 72 hours before your flight; the "No Wait" counters; or the Kerb-side check-in at the Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad Airports, for those with no checked luggage.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

Each Economy Class passenger is allowed to check in one piece of baggage with a maximum of 20 kilograms for free. Economy Plus passengers can check-in one piece of 25 Kilograms. Business Class passengers will have a complimentary baggage allowance of two pieces per passenger with a maximum combined weight of 30 kilograms. Passengers heading to the USA and Canada will have a free baggage allowance of two pieces of 28 kilograms each for Economy Class and 32 kilograms for Business Class. For carry-on bags, Economy and Economy Plus will have an allowance of 7 kilograms each. Business Class passengers are entitled to carry one piece of 7 kilograms’ bag plus one briefcase weighing 5 kilograms.


PIA's aircraft for short-haul flights are configured in two classes: Economy and Economy Plus. Long-haul flights will have three cabin classes, with Economy, Economy Plus, and Business Class. Economy seats are laid 9-seats across which allow for more generous space. Economy Plus seats are similar to the Economy Seats with more legroom. The Business Class cabin has recliner seats with ample legroom and chair width. Economy Plus passengers can avail of benefits such as an exclusive cabin area, more comfortable seats, Club Class meal service and other features such as welcome drinks, amenity kits, and the latest in-flight entertainment.

In-flight Services

F&B: Meals are complimentary on PIA. Menus are a mixture of Western and Pakistani dishes and may vary depending on the flight route and time of day. Special meals due to dietary restrictions and children's meals can also be booked during the booking process or by contacting the airline. These special meals should be requested at least 24 hours before the flight.

Entertainment: Each passenger will have a headphone and a personal seatback screen to enjoy PIA's wide selection of movies, music, games, duty-free shopping. You can also view maps and real-time flight information at the display. PIA's in-flight magazine, Humsafar, is also available on all flights.
