Cheap flights from Russia

Officially known as the Russian Federation, Russia is the largest country in the world with a rich cultural heritage and a wide range of natural landscapes and scenery. Most travelers to Russia take their time to enjoy a journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway or cruise along the big river, Volga or take a trip around the Golden Ring of ancient cities.

The Trans-Siberian Railway is a famous network of railways that connect Moscow to the Russian Far East and the Sea of Japan. It connects to other rail networks in its neighboring countries of China, Mongolia and North Korea. Meanwhile, the Volga River is considered to be the longest and largest river in Europe. It runs through eleven of the twenty largest cities of Russia including its capital, Moscow. Lastly, the Golden Ring is a series of cities located northeast of Moscow. These cities are among the most picturesque in Russia and are considered as “open air museums”. They feature Russia’s unique architecture including cathedrals, monasteries and Kremlins. Expect to see a lot of the country’s iconic onion domes.

After your holiday in Russia, here are some countries to stop over before leaving Europe:

Finland – One of the world’s most technologically developed countries, Finland still has a vast area of untouched nature with approximately 188,000 lakes and a similar number of islands. Many tourists head over to Finland during the summer months to enjoy swimming and fishing in these many lakes. Other popular tourist destinations in Finland include the Suomenlinna – an inhabited sea fortress built across six islands, the Uspenski Cathedral and Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki and the Seurasaari.

Estonia – Located in Northern Europe, this Baltic state has a long beautiful coastline peppered with splendid beaches despite being a country with a short summer season. It also has quaint medieval old towns such as Tallinn – one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe. Paldiski is also another city to visit as it is a deserted Soviet army base now open to the public. Other popular tourist destinations in Estonia include the Toompea, Kadriorg Palace and Kõpu Lighthouse.

Ukraine – This Eastern European country is home to several UNESCO listed sites including the Lviv Center, Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans and the Saint-Sophia Cathedral. Travelers to this country can enjoy a hike up the Carpathian Mountains around Rakhiv, kayak down the Dniester, relax on the Crimea beaches or admire the Khotyn and Kamianets-Podilskyi castles.

Mongolia – This landlocked country between China and Russia is one of last places where nomadic lifestyle is still very much the tradition and where its majestic emptiness attracts many tourist arrivals to the country. While in Mongolia, take a trip to the Amarbaysgalant in Selenge where the monastery sits in the middle of nowhere. Visiting the beautiful Hôvsgôl lake in the province of Hövsgöl is also worth a visit.
