Saint Petersburg – Russia’s second largest city, Saint Petersburg is considered the cultural capital of the country and often described as the most Westernized city. When visiting Saint Petersburg, don’t miss a trip to The Hermitage. It is one of the largest and oldest museums in the world encompassing a complex of six historic buildings along the Palace Embankment including the Winter Palace which used to the residence of Russian Emperors.

Irkutsk – One of the largest cities in Siberia, Irkutsk is a popular destination for tourists with several museums and theaters as well as some old historic architecture. Be sure to drop by The Taltsy Museum located in the south of Irkutsk. It is an open-air museum showcasing the traditional architecture Siberia. It also features a number of old wooden buildings that were transported and reassembled from the Angara Valley when it was flooded.

Kazan – The eight most populous city in Russia, the city is best known for being the home of the Kazan Kremlin which is UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kazan Kremlin used to be a Tartar fortress before it was destroyed by Ivan the Terrible. The kremlin consists of many old buildings, the oldest of which is the Annunciation Cathedral.

Sochi – Located south of Moscow, Sochi is now one the more popular cities in Russia thanks to being the host city for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Before that is was already unofficially known as the

“Summer Capital” of Russia. With its beautiful mountainous coastline and numerous beaches topped with warm sunny days, it is Russia’s biggest and busiest summer sea destination.
