It is a strongly fortified citadel that dates back from Portugal’s medieval period.

Convent of Christ – Officially known as the Convent of the Order of Christ and as Convento de Cristo in Portuguese, the Convent of Christ is a religious and Roman Catholic building located in the city of Tomar. It was originally a Templar stronghold back in the 12th century and is now one of the country’s most important artistic and historical monuments. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
