The Bay Islands is also a good spot to visit. It is a popular area for fishing and sailing renowned internationally for big-game fishing. It is located 60 kilometers north-west of Whangarei City. It is an irregularly shaped bay and consists of 144 islands with Urupukapuka as the largest island. It also has numerous peninsulas and inlets. How to get around New Zealand

When traveling around New Zealand, taking a domestic flight is often a cheaper alternative to driving or taking a train. This is especially so when crossing between the North and South Islands. There are several airlines that serve these domestic routes including Air New Zealand which probably has the most extensive network. The other airlines are Virgin Australia, who code shares with Air New Zealand, Jetstar, air2there and Sounds Air.

Buses are also an option as they are fairly cheap and a reasonably comfortable way to get around New Zealand. There are several bus companies in the country depending on what kind of travel you prefer. InterCity, which is New Zealand’s national bus company, connects over 600 destinations nationwide. When opting for a bus, be aware that the country roads are often narrow and winding. Services can also often be just once per day even between major cities.

Since New Zealand is relatively isolated and far from anywhere else in the world, the best option to travel to New Zealand is by air. New Zealand’s international hubs are Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and Wellington. While Auckland Airport (AKL) and Christchurch International Airport (CHC) serve varied international routes, the others most serve flights from Australia. New Zealand also has several route options to South Pacific nations such as Cook Islands, Fiji and Samoa. This is due to a large population of Polynesian and Melanesian descent in New Zealand.
