Dipolog AIrport is a beachside airport in Dipolog City, the capital of the province of Zamboanga del Norte. While it is classified as a domestic airport and is a fairly small and simple affair, Dipolog Airport is one of the country’s busiest. It is considered one of the primary entry points to the second largest island of the Philippines, Mindanao.
Currently, its lone terminal building can accommodate around three hundred passengers of the two airlines that serve Dipolog Airport. Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines have direct flights from Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Cebu’s Mactan International Airport. Travel time from Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport is 1 hour and 20 minutes while from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, it is only 60 minutes.
An interesting bit of trivia to Dipolog Airport is the Miss Universe Garden. This is a garden that was created after the beauty pageant which was held in Dipolog in 1994 with trees planted by the Miss Universe candidates. Renovations have been done in the recent years to improve the airport’s facilities and operational efficiency. These include an improved runway, a modern control tower, fire station, and additional parking spaces.
It is a breeze to get through Dipolog Airport as it a no-frills airport with a small lobby and check-in area. A tourist centre and airport cafeteria are located in separate smaller structures from the terminal building.
