Solomon Airlines Cheap Flights & Promo Fares

Solomon Airlines is the national airline and flag carrier of the Solomon Islands. It was established in 1962, as a charter airline by Laurie Crowley, who has been flying around Papua New Guinea. Since no commercial aircraft was based at the Solomon Islands, Crowley decided to start an airline in the territory and called it Megapode Airlines. Megapode Airlines continued operations as a commercial airline until 1968, when it was bought out by Macair of Papua New Guinea. Upon acquisition, Macair changed the airline’s name as Solomon Islands Airways, also known as SOLAIR. Under Macair, SOLAIR became the smallest international airline in the world, serving the island of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea from the Solomon Islands, with a total of two Doves and two Beech Barons. In 1975, both Macair and SOLAIR were bought off by Talair, and in 1976, the airline received two Beech Queen Air 80 planes. In the years that followed, the airline was bought off by the government of Solomon Islands. The government expanded the airline’s fleet and reorganized its management.

Today, it regularly operates return services from Honiara to Brisbane, Nadi, Port Villa, Port Moresby, and Papua New Guinea. Solomon Airlines also operates an extensive domestic network around the Solomon Islands.
