Worth the time and money

Six of us hired a van/tour driver and went to Durango from g he PBEB Mazatlan for $100/person. We left at 7 am and returned at 7pm. Great drive, super scenery. Beautiful town for a one day visit. Cathedral, silver mine, sky gondola, etc.
Plenty to see but I won't stay overnight.

Full of Surprises

This is the type of city where you will not find many tourist, I didn't see one American while we were there. I loved it.
Now I was lucky and stayed with family, so never stayed at a hotel there.
That being said I had been warned in advance and glad I was, bring your own shampoo, lotion, etc. Everything has to be brought in, so it's much more expensive then it is in the USA. Foods are the cheapest and the food is amazing. I brought back a lot of cheese, it was great.
Another thing, awkward thing to talk about, but it's important as Americans aren't used to this. You don't flush your toilet paper, you throw it away in the trash can or you will clog the pipes. It was very weird for me, but I got used to it.
Depending on when you go there (time of year), make sure you're prepared. The houses are often time colder then outside during the winter. I assume hotels are they same way. It's the materials they are made with, it's to keep them cool in the summer. I was unprepared as a New Englander who's used to snow.
Definitely check out the shopping strip, which is next to the cathedral and the museums. But don't miss going to the outskirts too, beautiful ranches.
Also, not to far is the new highway that takes you to Mazatlan. Make the trip, even if only for the day, it took 12 years to build. There are 61 tunnels going through mountains to get there and you have to pass over the 2nd largest suspension bridge in the world. It's fanatic, don't miss out.
Something I heard from others who down there, if staying in a hotel, part of the tip you leave for the staff cleaning your room is things like a new thing of toothpaste, body wash or shampoo because it's so much more costly for them.
I really don't know how people support themselves down there, people earn less, yet have to pay more for almost everything. It definitely made me more self aware.
My family was warm and they are fortunate to be doctors, lawyers, professors and directors.
If you want to explore a part of Mexico without the tourist attractions, then this is a great spot.
I hope you enjoy your trip!!!

IF YOU ARE NOTE SURE ABOUT YOUR STAY, DON´T RESERVE HERE, THERE IS NO REFUND. THE HOTEL HAS A HOSPITAL FEELING
