Cheap flights from Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is a British Commonwealth island country situated in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It is part of the Lesser Antilles, located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados, and south of Martinique. Its capital and largest city is Castries. Saint Lucia experiences a tropical climate, moderated by northeast trade winds. The dry season is from January to April, while the rainy season is from May to August.

Saint Lucia celebrates its independence annually with a public holiday. The island nation was controlled by England from 1663 to 1667, and was subsequently at war with France 14 times. It was in 1814 when the British took definitive control of the island. The constant switch between British and French rule earned Saint Lucia its title of "Helen of the West Indies."

Where to go

Saint Lucia’s capital, Castries, is a main transit from one of the islands to the other. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth taking a tour around. Although most of the historic buildings in the city were destroyed by major fires, it doesn’t completely take away the beauty of Castries. Morne Fortune, arguably its most distinct feature, serves as a majestic backdrop. There’s a small obelisk monument here that commemorates the 27th Inniskilling Regiment’s retaking of the hill from French forces in 1796. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the city cathedral, is a grand stone structure that has a painted interior of trompe l’oeil columns, with St Lucia, the island’s patron saint, portrayed directly above the altar. There’s also the lovely Derek Walcott Square, named after local writer and Nobel Prize winner Derek Walcott, which is surrounded by 19th-century wooden beautiful buildings.
