Peace, comfort and outstanding views

Little Holtby is a haven of peace and quiet just off the A1 in a beautiful spot overlooking the garden, farmland and distant hills. It's a very spacious and comfortable home with Regency inspired furnishings. There are good toiletries; plenty of towels and biscuits to go with the hot drink in your room. You feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of the motorway. Dorothy is a discreet and gentle presence but also friendly and welcoming. She serves a delicious breakfast with fresh strawberries from the garden and delicious homemade yoghurt and you feel that nothing would be too much trouble. A lift was offered to a fellow guest to collect his car. She really is a very generous and kind-hearted hostess. Evening meals can be had at the local pub, a short car drive away..

3 day break

Wow! We booked this accommodation as we had never been to York before. We got a last minute deal and could not be happier with the accommodation. We are staying in Owl Cottage which is a one bedroom cottage (barn conversion) which is of a very high standard. There are other options available and if these are of similar standard then they would not disappoint. The quality of the furnishings are superb. The layout is excellent and you have everything you need for a self catering break. The owner - John, introduced himself and mentioned that if there was anything that we needed, do not hesitate to ask. Our only suggestion would be - hangers for the wardrobe and some kind of curtain or blind on the main door as this overlooks a beautiful courtyard and allows any neighbours to look straight in (at the moment of writing, we do not have any). We were both blown away by how lovely this place is and would recommend this as an ideal base for visiting York and the surrounding area. For the shoppers there is Monks Gate and a nearby Designer Outlet and there are good pubs and restaurants nearby if you don't want to. We would have no hesitation coming here again.

Excellent accommodation

If you are looking for remote and peaceful - this is the place to visit. If you want to go cycling away from busy places - this is the place to start from. Dorothy goes above and beyond when it comes to looking after guests, plus very knowlegeable and helpful. Despite being close to the A1M we couldn't hear the motorway at all. This is a great base to use to investigate Yorkshire and as a couple living in York, we were easily able to visit areas on our doorstep at leisure. Highly recommended B&B.

Warm and luxurious stay

In this beautiful b&b, close to the motorway, but really very quiet, we slept in a comfortable 4-poster bed in a large room. We could use nearly the whole house, and were spoilt rotten. Best of all was the 3-course breakfast, which was absolutely gorgeous. And Dorothy is the loveliest host, she wants you to have a good time! And we loved her humour. It's also very near to the Yorkshire Dales and the Wensleydale Railway lines nearby (Leeming Bar or Bedale) Can bring you up to Redmire, the edge of the Dales. A walk to Bolton Castle is lovely.
And last but not least: Fountains Abbey is really close too. A must-see and Unesco world heritage!

One of the best places I have stayed

We spent two nights here and our stay was perfect. Our room was lovely: quirky and characterful with decor and soft furnishings of the highest quality - lovely colours and design. Our hostess, Dorothy was charming and cooked a superb breakfast with homemade jams, marmalade and lemon curd.
Gorgeous Wensleydale is nearby with all its amenities and it's within easy striking distance of Northallerton and Richmond.
