Lovely family hotel
Just came back, family of four What a beautiful hotel Felt like a spa experience Plenty of sunbeds Staff really welcoming Absolutely stunning views The sea is lovely and calm most of the time and very quiet area We hired a car one day and took the fun train to see pleasures of Crete We took a bus into the pretty town of chania
The food was varied enough for all We never went hungry however we did eat in some stunning tavernas in the mountains
The hotel is spotless and rooms to a high standard I was really sad to go home as they make you feel part of there family
Very safe for children to play in hotel grounds and as it’s only small the kids made friends from day one
Entertainment was four times in the week which was great
The only downside was the alcohol as cocktails only served from 6.30 - 10.30 pm
I would definitely return this hotel is very charming with stunning views
A massive thankyou to all the staff

Come as a guest, leave as a friend
Our third visit to Maleme Mare and we love it so much. It is located in a beautiful and peaceful area, the perfect place to relax and enjoy. The food is amazing and fresh, a lot of authentic greek cuisine.
The rooms are spacious and very clean with good aircondition. The staff is very friendly and always ready to assist. Their motto “Come as a guest, leave as a friend” is absolutely true, we have made great friends there.
The value for money is very good since you get everything you need while you stay there.

Amazing week!
My friend and I have just returned from a brilliant 7 night stay here. Considering it's the middle of the school holidays, this place remains calm and peaceful.
We arrived around 10:15pm and were made to feel instantly welcome, guided to the bar to grab a cocktail before the bar closed whilst we filled out some forms and checked in. There was a ham and cheese sandwich, juice and small salad in our room waiting for us too!
The room was clean and came equipped with a hairdryer, fridge, coffee machine, large mirror and vanity desk. The bathroom was split into a sink area, with separate toilet and shower spaces.
The pool opens at 9am every day and we never once struggled for a sunbed, every sunbed is a thick padded one too which was a bonus! They also have a large stock of mesh sunbeds available incase a time came where the sunbeds were all taken, so you'll always get one. There are two pools so it never feels too busy and the bar is in the middle of both pools.
The location of the hotel is quite far out from the hustle and bustle of things but there are a few shops (supermarket style with souvenirs too). There are also two cash machines which charge around £3/5 euro to use if needed as well as a few restaurants and tavernas dotted around. The beach is literally a stones throw away from the hotel and you can hire two sunbeds for the day for five euro - ask the hotel.
There is a new bus service that runs directly outside the hotel, you literally stand roadside (there are no bus stops) and flag it down (white bus that says chania on it) and can access chania town as well as quite a lot of stops along the way. It takes around 35 mins to get to chania and you can pay on card directly on the bus - it was around €5.40 for two of us to get to chania.
Entertainment is varied and not on every night - during our stay it was on 4 out of 7 nights and included; magician, DJ, karaoke night, singer.
The food was great with lots of variety. Mostly labelled (good for us as my friend has a peanut allergy).
The staff - AMAZING. Absolute credit to this place and the other reviews are not exaggerating when they say you leave as friends. Thank you to Sasha behind the bar and Stavros especially for making our stay so good.
We flew home late on the last day and were able to take advantage of late check out (for a fee) so we could enjoy a full day at the pool.
There is food to eat basically all day! Ice cream is help-yourself all day, they have sandwiches or wraps available to help yourself all day and around 3pm they have hot food snacks available such as chicken nuggets, pizza, chips.
We usually don't stay at the same place twice as we like to see different places but the staff and overall experience we've just had here has made us very tempted to return next year.

Very nice resort with two pools situated in a quiet area
We had a really lovely week's stay at Maleme Mare in July. We share many of the other positive reviews: Beautiful resort, lovely green areas, fantastic pool areas and lovely, large rooms with good balconies. As the bar with lots of seating is between the two pools, it rarely gets really crowded around the pools (at least not during our stay - only one day many new arrivals seemed to be members of ’the sunbed gang'.
Extremely annoying as everywhere, but the hotel managed well by having a lot of extra sunbeds when needed. During the day many guests, including ourselves, switched between the pool area, the bar area and the restaurant.
The food was generally good with variations. Soup, fresh salads, fish, chicken and meat as well as different types of potatoes and rice. Everything was quickly replenished for both lunch and dinner. Well, after a week it might start to taste a bit the same, but so it does if you go to different Greek restaurants in more touristy areas. Summa summarum: We were satisfied!
Staff was nice, from arrival to departure. Guests were invited to tip at a bowl in bar and restaurant, which was fine, but it was fortunately not like you felt you had to tip for each ’included drink’ – which would kind of ruin the concept of All Inclusive.
Ice and coffee to be self served all day was nice.
Maleme Beach was very quite – which we expected and wanted, and what we could see looking at Google Maps. For us, that was very nice. But if you want a main street with restaurants, bars and shops outside the door, you might get disappointed. If you want to rent a car/take a bus etc., it is very easy. There are (at least) three shops/supermarkets very close to the hotel, which was nice.
We were a little bit reluctant with the peble beach, but for the two days, we could swim in it, it was great. Just a good idea wearing shoes. Unfortunately, we had 5-6 days of waves and red flags.
There is entertainment some evenings of week, and more silent bar evenings other days. We found that it was a good mixture, as it is not a ’party hotel’ – but it is still nice with some entertainment.
All in all, this was what we expected and wanted for this week of relaxation.
(P.S.: We had a room on the site of the quite pool, which is quiter, but also has a more beautiful view).

Nice hotel, although not really 4 star in our opinion.
We had an overall relaxing stay, with some clear positives but also a few areas that didn’t meet expectations for a four-star hotel. The pool area is a highlight—plenty of space and no issues getting sunbeds, which made it easy to unwind. The grounds are well kept and pleasant to walk around, and the reception team were excellent. One member of staff in particular was very friendly and went out of her way to help us find a doctor during our stay, which we really appreciated. The owner was also welcoming, if a little eccentric.
However, there were several drawbacks. While the hotel provides sunbeds on the beach, these come at an extra charge, which feels unnecessary given the overall price. The food was unfortunately average at best—often slow to be replenished, with little urgency from staff. Some of the core dishes felt low quality, with a lot of cheaper cuts of meat, and the soft drinks were particularly poor. This was disappointing and took away from the overall experience.
The gym was another letdown and one of the main reasons we choshotel. It feels like a collection of old or donated equipment rather than a proper facility. Thankfully, the beachfront location made it possible to get out for runs, although this was really only manageable in the mornings due to the heat.
We booked expecting a four-star standard, having stayed in several similar hotels across Greece, but this didn’t quite match that level. While we did enjoy a relaxing break, the food and facilities mean this would likely be a one-time visit for us, especially considering the price and expectations set by the rating and reviews.
