Great hotel in a good location
Aquila Rithymna is a great hotel right on the beach and with 3 pools to choose from as well as the waterpark. I recommend having a good explore!
We stayed for 2 weeks with family and friends and overall had a brilliant stay.
We mostly enjoyed the main pool but be aware loungers do go quickly however Vasilis does a tireless job of policing the loungers not sat on by 9.45am.
The main pool is quite deep in places but has non swimmer areas too. They allow inflatables despite the sign saying otherwise.
The waterpark is great- there is a splash park for little ones and a lazy river. There are slides for heights 120 upwards- they check your height if they are unsure. The park is very clean and modern and is well supervised by lots of lifeguards.
The beach is clean but quite rocky- recommend water shoes. There was a red flag- no swimming during most of our stay due to the wind. There are turtle nests in the beach so there are rules
In place at night time so not to disturb them.
On site shop is well stocked and not too overally priced. There are shops along the road from the hotel too.
We had a family room with a sea view - got an upgrade from a garden view and we had no complaints. Some of the furniture perhaps needs updated. The kids had their own space separated by sliding doors.
Food- we enjoyed the food especially the BBQ night at main restaurant and mournies Greek restaurant for lunch. The lunch is à la carte and you can visit as many times as you want for lunch on the all inclusive package.
Drinks- kids enjoyed milkshakes and mocktails and we enjoyed the cocktails from the lounge bar. The ones by the pool were not so good.
Download the hotel app and you can order drinks from your lounger by the main pool and book restaurant. You need to book for dinner in all restaurants and lunch (at mournies).
The staff are very friendly and work very hard!
It is a short taxi ride or bus trip to Rethymno which is a pretty town worth a visit.
Suggested improvements:
Have somewhere you can order a take away coffee or get water before 10.30am. There is nowhere to get a drink after breakfast until 10.30am
Towel exchange - have it open later than 4pm
Kids club- don’t take them swimming at the hottest part of the day. They go to kids club to get out of the sun and do something different.
On check out not being able to order drinks through the app is quite annoying.
Waterpark- when busy don’t let people reuse the rubber rings if there is a queue of people waiting for the rings.
Have a camera set up so you can watch the turtle hatching footage.
The fees for late check out were extortionate!

Relaxing a couple
Holidayed with her husband for 14 days in May. Excellent reception work- took into account all wishes when checking in. It was very convenient using the hotel app to book restaurant visits and get all the information about the hotel and events, as well as to contact the reception. All issues were handled very quickly. It was nice to have ALL the staff say hello. We have visited many good hotels for the 22nd time in Greece and the 10th time in Crete and can celebrate this. Cleaners are quiet at 6:00 a.m. The hotel manager is on the premises regularly and keeps an eye on order.
Restaurant: with the help of an app where you choose the time of visit ,the flow of visitors is well regulated - no interpretative, everyone is escorted to tables. The food is varied, everything is fresh, a good selection of both seafood and different meats, fruit and desserts are good. The chef oversees the replenishment. Thank you! Husband gained 6 kg in two weeks! (-: Only the main restaurant lacked Greek music in the morning.
The grounds are very well maintained, lots of greenery and flowers.
There are enough sunbeds on the beach, the beach is large sand and in places pebbles, the entrance to the sea is not very comfortable - I would make stairs from the breakwaters. The beach is being watched, all clear. Only there is no non-smoking area!!! I hope they ban smoking on beaches like Spain soon.
The hotel had a great spa centre, took various types of massages - was satisfied. It is very pleasant that the guests’ leisure is supervised by the staff and, if noisy children came, their parents were asked to be quiet, for the children there is a water park and a club, there and you can make noise.
Behind the hotel there is a street with shops and bars, as well as a bus stop to Rethymno(15 min). Bus tickets must be bought in the on-site store at the checkout counter 2.20 euros, the schedule - for reception.
Rest well, but next time we'll go to the adults-only hotel again! Consider Aquila Elounda, as, joined the hotel club, and this gives benefits! Thanks for the rest! The hotel is safe to recommend!

Ema was fantastic!
Review for Ema the photographer at the resort.
We booked a last minute photo shoot with Ema and she was fantastic from start to finish. She was so welcoming, great with the kids, explained the shots she was going to take and had some really lovely ideas.
The photos are amazing, and a perfect memory of a fantastic holiday!

We had a wonderful week at this hotel, Everything as advertised and worth every penny. And staff is amazing, especially our floor housekeeper Svetlana and reception team. Kostos, Anna and all of them looked after us very well. Thank you so much, we had great time.

Absolutely delighted
We were absolutely delighted with our stay. The accommodation was lovely, the overall atmosphere was fantastic, and the service and food were excellent. The animators from the Czech kids’ club were truly exceptional (110%) and did an amazing job. Both the children and the parents loved them! ☀️
