Tourism in Israel is mostly comprised of religious tourism thanks to its distinction as being part of the Holy Land. It is home to many religious, historical and biblical archeological sites. Israel is also considered to have the highest number of museums per capita in the world. Other than religious and archeological tourism, Israel also has a number of beautiful beach resorts.

Start planning a holiday in Israel and personally see all these historical sights. Here are just a few of the highly recommended things to do in Israel:

Western Wall – Locally known as Kotel and located in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Western Wall is a comparatively small segment of the wall surrounding an area called the Temple Mount. The Temple Mount is Jerusalem’s holiest site and where many Jews go to for prayer. The Kotel is the only remainder of this sacred temple making it the most significant site for Jewish pilgrimage. The Western Wall is open 24 hours daily. Women are required to be in modest dress and a head cover for men. It is free to enter and visit the Western Wall.

Sea of Galilee – The largest freshwater lake in the country, it is also known as Kinneret, Lake of Gennesaret and Lake Tiberias. The lake is 21 kilometers long, 13 kilometers wide and 53 kilometers in diameter. It is a popular holiday destination for many and is surrounded by several historical and religious sites. It is especially popular among Christian pilgrims because it is known to be the site of many miracles of Jesus.

It is said to be the burial site of Jesus making it a popular tourist destination as well as an important Christian pilgrimage destination.

The best time to travel to Israel would have to be during their spring and autumn season where the country would be in full bloom coming from the winter rains. While humidity can be uncomfortable in some areas, the temperature does fall to a comfy level at night time. For travelers wanting to visit the beaches of Israel, planning a trip during the summertime would be best. Rain is extremely rare during these months so you are assured a sunny day at the beach.

The best way to visit Israel would be by air. Israel’s main international airport, the Ben-Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, is approximately 40 kilometers from Jerusalem and 12 kilometers

from Tel Aviv’s city center. It serves the population of both cities. The Ben-Gurion Airport is also the hub for the Israel’s three main international airlines, the El Al Airlines, Arkia Israel Airlines and Israir Airlines.
