It is believed to hold the remains of the Three Wise Men. The shrine is made up of bronze and silver and takes the form of a large reliquary in the shape of a basilican church. It is gilded with enamels, gemstones and architectonic details.
If you find yourself in Bavaria, head on over to the Neuschwanstein Castle which is a nineteenth-century Romanesque Revival palace. It is located on a rocky hill overlooking the village of Hohenschwangau. This castle was said to be the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty castle. It is open daily including winter except for January 1st and December 24-25 and the 31st. Before heading to the castle, be sure to purchase your tickets first. The best options to travel around Germany is to take the train or by renting a car. If you’re on a budget holiday, traveling by arranged ride-sharing is also a good alternative.
