Aalborg Airport is located just 6.5km northwest of the city centre of Aalborg. Aalborg (or Ålborg) is an industrial and university city in northern Denmark, towards the top of the Jutland peninsula. Its historical roots relates to its geographical position as an important harbor and a Viking trading post. Predominantly an industrial town, the architectural heritage seen in modern-day Aalborg are the well-preserved mansions of the prosperous merchants.

Today, tourists flock to these charming half-timbered mansions and other historical Dutch Renaissance buildings.

Aalborg's tourist industry is also booming as evidenced in considerable rise in the number of passenger arrivals at Aalborg Airport. Recent developments in the city have the enhanced the variety of tourist attractions. The Aalborg waterfront promenade is a good example of urban regeneration, taking what was a shabby dockside area and transforming it into a popular destination lined with bars, restaurants, park and playgrounds.

Budolfi Church- Budolfi Church, now a cathedral, dates from the end of the 14th century. Built in the Gothic style, it consists of a nave flanked by two aisles, a tower, and a porch. After the original tower was destroyed by fire in 1663, the striking new Baroque tower, was completed in 1779. The church has 16th-century frescoes and an intricately carved early Baroque altarpiece from 1689 created by Lauridtz Jensen.

Jens Bang's House- On Østerågade near the old town hall, is one of Denmark's best examples of 17th-century domestic architecture. Built in 1624 by the Aalborg merchant Jens Bang in the Dutch Renaissance style, the four-story sandstone building is noted for its rising gables and sculpted auricular window decorations.

Jomfru Ane Gade(literally Virgin Anne's Street) - One of the most famous streets in Aalborg if not in Denmark. Popular for its cafés and restaurants during the day, it is even busier at night with its clubs, discos and bars. And if you fancy a drink to finish (or begin) the evening, Jomfru Ane Gade – a narrow-but-lengthy strip of watering holes – is often referred to as ‘Scandinavia’s longest bar’.

Utzon Center- Born in Copenhagen, noted architect JørnUtzon grew up in Aalborg. The centre contains an exhibition on Utzon's work, which includes the Sydney Opera House, as well as various educational displays on architecture and design. According to legend, Utzon found his inspiration for Australia’s most famous edifice in the choppy waves of the Limhord – and the Center, built in tribute to his career, echoes that great auditorium in the sharp peaks that spring up from its roof.

As the fourth largest urban area in Denmark, Aalborg is not a large place – but it is an historic one with a vibrant character. It is well worth a visit! Find the best flight for you by searching for promo fares to Aalborg on Skyscanner.
