Flights to Dallas

This Texan city conjures up images of cowboy boots in corporate boardrooms and rightfully so, because Dallas is the hub of the United State’s oil industry. Dallas is the economic center and the largest urban city of the fourth most populous metropolitan center in the United States, the 12-county Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Area. This big city enjoys a strong and vibrant economy. This is evident in its numerous gleaming skyscrapers, large shopping malls, high-end department stores and luxurious hotels.

Shopping is big in Dallas. The luxurious Galleria has hundreds of stores and 9 anchors with lots of dining options. The famed Neiman Marcus has its roots in Dallas and the original flagship of this upscale department store still stands in the downtown area.

Getting around this expansive urban metropolis however can be a bit difficult as there is a limited transportation network between the city centre and its attractions in the historic neighborhoods. The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) covers most of the city centre and the downtown points of interest though. They also have a free vintage streetcar service, M-Line Trolley, that connects the Arts District to the downtown hotels, bars and restaurants. Cabs and car rental services are also available in the city.

Dallas covers a huge area and visitors need more than just a few days to see all the attractions in the greater Dallas metropolitan area. The city known as the Big D is a fast moving city with an Old West flavor, and here are just some of the more popular attractions worth exploring:

The Arts District

The Dallas Arts District, a performing and visual arts district, is the largest in the country. In a city more known for big business, Dallas is also home to cultural landmarks and venues for the arts such as the Dallas Museum of Art, Morton Meyersons Symphony Center and the Winspear Opera House.

Nasher Sculpture Centre

This Renzo Piano-designed Nasher Sculpture Center is also located in the Dallas Arts District. The impressive collection of Raymond and Patsy Nasher includes more than 300 sculptures by most of the 20th century’s greatest talents including Rodin, de Koonig, Giacometti, Matisse, Miro, Picasso and Serra. Admission to the center is free.

Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy

No visit to Dallas is complete without a visit to this famous museum that marks the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  History buffs and visitors to the city will surely enjoy this historic exhibit of the life, death and legacy of JFK. The museum is quite small but packs an impressive amount of information on this important piece of 20th century history. It is the former Texas School Book Depository, where Lee Harvey Oswald is presumed to have fired the fatal shots. It is highly recommended to get your tickets online as this museum is very popular with tourists.

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden

Located in East Dallas, this is a 66-acre garden that features breathtaking flora and fauna displays all year round. Nestled on the shores of the beautiful White Rock Lake, it is a popular spot for locals who come here for running, bird-watching and picnics.

The city of Dallas is also home to several family-friendly attractions. If you are traveling with the family, Dallas offers theme park attractions such as Six Flags over Texas and the LEGOLAND Discovery Center for a day of fun for kids of all ages. A visit to the Dallas Zoo, the largest and oldest zoological park in Texas, is also highly recommended for families.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is the primary international airport serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in Texas. It is the largest airport in Texas and the second largest in the United States and one of the busiest airports in the world. DFW is served by the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) which offers bus and direct rail services to the downtown Dallas areas.
