Very nice and easygoing hostel. Prices are very reasonable. Lots of little useful things around, like books, free stuff from other travellers and many info's. The staff is very helpful. Extented my stay for a few days as I won't find a better place in Thessaloniki. Will for sure choose it again when coming back.

Extremely DIRTY disappointing and overpriced.
I stayed at Arabas Studios in Thessaloniki, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing from beginning to end.
First, the price was far too high for what was offered – this hostel is the most expensive hostel I found in Thessaloniki. The location is very far from the center and up a very steep hill, and if you want to go to the nearest shop – you have to climb down the hill. Careful please – VERY STEEP. Yet the accommodation was more expensive than other hostels that are much better maintained.
The mixed room and common areas were dirty. The tables are dirty, and when things were moved there were piles of dirt underneath. The room was very dark, and there was black mold that made breathing hard. I arrived sick after drinking the water in Asprovalta, and I was in the mixed room for 2 days – I couldn’t sleep or breathe well and I was chaughing so much.
The third night I got a private room in the hostel for 1 night. After that 1 night I felt better and returned to the mixed room, and I immediately smelled the mold and I couldn’t breathe. I asked to cancel because this is what kept me sick – the black mold.
The manager (older guy and not one of the 4 young people who cleaned the rooms and took care of the day to day) moved me up to a mixed room upstairs. There was Wi-Fi there, no black mold, but the fridge didn’t work and smelled SO ROTTEN!
So I had to use the large shared refrigerator in the common area – that was also problematic: it was so dirty and there was hardly any space, and access was restricted to 09:00–22:00. That means if you want to store something or simply make coffee in the morning, you are not able to access your food or drinks.
The kettle was also locked away between 22:00 and 09:00, which is an especially strange restriction in accommodation. The Wi-Fi was another disappointment – it did not work at all in the first mixed room with the black mold.
The bathroom in the first room had its own problems. The toilet repeatedly got stuck and did not flush properly.
There were also problems with the mosquito nets. They did not work properly, leaving people exposed to mosquitoes and whatever was biting my legs. I had significant bites during my stay. I have attached a photo of the bites.
The difference between the rooms also felt unreasonable. The €53 room apparently had soft towels and proper mosquito protection, while the mixed rooms had poor-quality towels and equipment that simply did not work properly.
For €53, I expected a much higher standard of cleanliness and basic functioning facilities. And for €27 for a mixed room (the most expensive price I found in all of Thessaloniki for mixed rooms), I would expect not being poisoned by black mold and all the dirty fridges and surfaces. With the €2 charge for a lock and €1 for a towel, that is €30 for a mixed room.
The charging situation was also ridiculous. After 12 hours of charging, my phone was only at 77%.
The biggest problem, however, was the payment situation. For the private room I was initially told a price in the range of “45–50” euros by one girl. Then another girl (stay tuned for her character development) told me €53 and attempted to charge me more in taxes.
I had already paid €27 (€25 + €2 euro tax), so I should only have had to pay the difference. Instead, I was charged €30. This resulted in me being overcharged by €4 (after I told her I already paid the tax – she knew she was there when I was initially charged – she dropped the price from €32 to €30), and, more seriously, I was concerned that the calculation was being applied incorrectly to the other nights as well. The constantly changing price and unclear calculation made me feel that I was being overcharged rather than simply given a transparent final price.
The MOST INSULTING thing was what this black haired girl did (I’m trying to describe her so you know who I’m talking about – she has dark skin color, long black hair with a blonde streak. The other 2 girls were white).
I came to her after the 3rd night and asked her, “Can I please leave and get the money back for the nights I didn’t stay?”
She smiled and said, “I can give you your money back for the nights you didn’t stay.”
I was surprised and had a big smile on my face and I said, “REALLY? You will give me my money back?”
She smiled back and said, “Yes, no problem.”
So I said, “So I just go get my things and come back to you and you pay me?”
She said, “Yes, you have till 22:00 to come here and give back the keys.”
I packed EVERYTHING and gave away a lot of things to the people there. It took about 15 minutes. I came back and gave the keys and said, “OK, how do we do this?”
She said, “I cannot give you your money back.”
I said, “But you said yes.”
She answered with a FULL SMILE. Looked me dead in the eyes, smiled and said, “I said I can’t give you your money back.”
I said, “I asked you a few times and you said yes. I was so happy – why would you think I would be so happy if you said NO?”
She kept smiling and said, “I’m sorry I made you think I will give you your money back.”
Now listen, I worked in hospitality for 20 years – when mistakes happened, I was horrified that I misled the customer by mistake. She was happy. I swear on everything that is holy I am telling the truth.

After leaving, I found a private room in the center for €35 that was clean and much better overall. That really put the €53 price here into perspective – and the €27 mixed room where they charged €2 for a lock and €1 for a hard towel – that is €30 for a mixed room.

Disappointment!!!
For a 1970 hippie stay is ok. Don't mind going like a family. There is no elevator, no layers for people, no decent bedding, the staff does not speak Greek, you can not find parking, the room does not have 1 glass to drink water (although it has a kitchen). I put the 3 stars because of the polite staff and the cool location of this hostel in Upper Town.

Place was really cold
I booked for 7 nights and wanted to leave after 2 nights but found out that i wouldn't get a refund for the 7 nights i payed for. Didnt know that before i payed unfortunately. The place was really cold and i ended up getting sick. I just dont get why its rated so highly.

The staff is great, very helpful. Location is a bit off, but in a quiet area. I extented my stay as its relaxed there and cheap. The private rooms are big, cooking facilities and small balcony.
