Excellent stay
It was with some trepidation that we booked Code Apartments based on some reviews we read. These concerns were quickly erased from booking in through to checkout. All staff were professional, friendly and very helpful, room service i.e. linen changes were more than expected, the unit we had was clean and quiet plus we found Code Apartments were very central for our needs accessing the City, Charmaine, Ashgrove and Wynnum with ease. Definitely 10 out of 10.

Serious Hygiene and Pest Issues – Extremely Disappointing Stay
I stayed at Code Apartments Bowen Hills, Brisbane, from 14–18 April 2026 after booking through Booking.com. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst accommodation experiences I have had.
As soon as we entered the apartment, I began photographing its condition. We found damaged walls, stained and damaged carpet, a dented refrigerator, and, most concerning, live cockroaches inside the kitchen drawers, on the kitchen benchtop, and even inside the toaster. For a property marketed as self-catering, this was completely unacceptable. There was also no broom, dustpan or vacuum cleaner available to maintain basic cleanliness. After reporting the issues, staff initially refused to provide a vacuum cleaner before eventually leaving one in the apartment, which my travelling companion used to clean the dining area himself.
Our interaction with management was equally disappointing. The Front of House Manager, who identified himself only as "MJ", refused to provide his full name when we requested it to make a formal complaint and responded, "You can complain wherever you want." We found this dismissive and unprofessional.
The most disturbing incident occurred at approximately 3:00 am on our final night when I woke after feeling something on my foot. I discovered a live insect and also a live cockroach on the bed. I immediately recorded the incident on my phone.
After returning home, what initially appeared to be a minor insect bite became infected. I required multiple visits to my GP, wound care from the practice nurse, prescription antibiotics, and regular dressing changes. The wound ultimately took more than seven weeks to heal, and I have extensive medical records and photographs documenting the injury and its recovery.
I lodged formal complaints with Code Apartments, Booking.com and the relevant Brisbane health authorities. Despite providing evidence, including photographs, videos and medical documentation, I have not received any meaningful explanation or the outcome of any investigation.
My purpose in leaving this review is not simply to express my disappointment but to warn other travellers. In my opinion, accommodation advertised as self-catering should meet basic standards of cleanliness, hygiene and pest control. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend staying at Code Apartments Bowen Hills.

We had a two bedroom apartment. The room was so musty and the windows were locked shut in the first bedroom. The second bedroom had wet carpet. The bathroom had no ventilation and as soon as you turned the shower on the water leaked all over the floor and out into the main living area all over the carpet.
Neither the kettle nor microwave had any power either.

I have stayed here previously, and I knew what to expect at the price.
I think the biggest issue is that the listed photos and rating flatter the property far too much. It is not a 4.5 star property. It is closer to a worn down 3 star option.
The location is good. Price is fine. Property is not well looked after.
Even having stayed here before, we had a few "moments" this trip.
- Checking in, we entered out room to find the hotel staff having their lunch in our room (also the late checkin was a nightmare from last time)
- The aircon did not work in the bedroom
- There was plastic awning all outside our room on the floors and up the walls
- The pool was closed for planned works (we were not advised the pool would be closed before the rip - annoying)
- Shower needs urgently replacing
Place needs some urgent TLC.
