Fairy Tale Stuff

Always wanted to stay in a cave house - so we did!
Gorgeous set of cave houses built into one cave.
We said in Higuera (fig tree) 2 bed house.
Cosy, extremely clean with a very comfy beds. Each little house has its own bbq built into the cave outside and patio table and chairs. Each house is obscured from the others so you aren’t overlooked.
Once we had the log fire on and the wine was open, snuggled down we felt like characters from a fairy story living in a cave! So romantic.
The views are so beautiful of the Sierra Nevada. Guadix is nearby (used for Indians Jones’ film) and Benalua has all you need for food, drink and grocery shopping.
The host was wonderful and met us on arrival - nothing too much trouble.
If you come here go the local Bodega and do a tour.
(Basic Spanish a good idea)

Cave Living is the Life for Me

Cuevas la Chumbera was a dream come true. Snoozing away in a real-life cave was cozy and amazing. There are only 5 cave rooms here, so very personal and lovely. Our host was great, and despite our language barrier, he managed to provide a map of the area and local recommendations, all with lots of smiles. He even gave us tastes from his yummy organic grapes. The grounds also have organic olives and a chicken coop, adding to the charm. Our 2-bedroom cave was spacious and oozing with more charm. The interior walls, like the exterior, are textured and bright white, adding some light to an otherwise dark space. Bright decor is adorable and seems authentic to the region. Kitchen had all that we needed, even a washing machine (we did not use). Our cave had two salon areas with couches, so plenty of space for the 2 of us to spread out and feel at home. We even ate in one night to take full advantage of our cave lifestyle. Bathroom was modern and large; shower had ample space (no shower curtain), shampoo and shower gel provided, good pressure and plenty of hot water. Bed was comfy and pillows were great. Be careful, when shutters closed, the cave is so dark and cozy, you may sleep the day away, but get up! and go explore the local area. We were there in October 2016 and saw very few tourists and not much English being spoken, which added to our fun and adventure. Worth noting: Wifi did not work inside our cave, but stepping outside and it worked great. Consider unplugging while in the cave and just enjoy your cave living.

Wonderful, cosy, peaceful, delightful, etc., etc..

Delightful comfortable cueva, spacious, very well equipped, tastefully decorated. Secure parking. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. We have previously stayed in a cave dwelling and this one is excellent. We would recommend it without reservation. We hope to return one day!

Loved this place very much

We drove Spain for four weeks and our 3 nights at this location was a highlight. The lovely owner truely is proud of his hotel and the grounds. And rightly so. Our room was faultless, with a lovely outdoor table/chairs and umbrella just for us. The pool was superb. Clean and warm with plenty of deck chairs, all surrounded by peach trees covered in fruit. It rooms were well appointed (loved having our own washing machine so we could depart with clean clothes) and the rooms were extemely clean. The day we arrived was a public holiday and the stores and restaurants were all closed. The owner kindly gave us vegetables from his garden, eggs from his hens and bottle of wine.....what a lovely dinner we had sitting outside watching for shooting stars. I would go back to Cuevas La Chumbera tomorrow if I could and will highly recommend to all who ask

Fantastic!

What a wonderful place to stay; very peaceful, quiet, extremely clean, spacious and the owners were so enthusiastic about the area and very helpful in showing us what we might like to see. (We thought the area looked like Utah after several weeks in the mountains of Andalucía.) The grocery store is a few minutes drive into town and there is parking right next to the store; very convenient. The pool looked lovely, but was not open yet. We highly recommend La Chumbera for a stay in this area.
