Surrounded by the Totes Gebirge mountain range, the family-run Relax & Wanderhotel Poppengut offers indoor and outdoor pools, a large garden and a sauna. All rooms have a private bathroom and a satellite TV. The spacious Junior Suites and Suites feature parquet flooring and a balcony with panoramic mountain views. Free Wi-Fi is available in the public areas. The Poppengut Hotel can be found in the village of Mitterstoder, 1312 feet from the Hinterstoder and Wurzeralm ski areas. The ski bus leaves right in front of the hotel. Cross-country skiing trails are a 5-minute walk away and a floodlit toboggan track can be reached on foot in 10 minutes. In summer, you can take part in guided hiking tours in the Kalkalpen National Park. Half board includes a buffet breakfast, an afternoon snack and dinner with characteristic Upper-Austrian specialties.

Beautiful vacation hotel in Hinterstoder

We have already spent several vacations at the Poppengut in Hinterstoder and were thrilled every time. The rooms are well-equipped and very clean, the balconies invite you to linger. The breakfast is extensive and offers everything you need. Fresh egg dishes are prepared upon request and various types of coffee are on offer. The afternoon snack is varied and hearty. On the beautiful terrace in the inner courtyard, you can sit and relax in almost any weather. The dinner is freshly prepared and very balanced. There is always a good selection and special requests are implemented. The spa area with a beautiful outdoor pool and a pleasant indoor pool is spacious. The cabin sauna in the garden is a nice special feature. The garden is beautifully maintained and very quiet due to its size. There are many shaded areas. The staff is super sweet and always friendly and helpful. We give it 12 out of 10 points!

Great selection of dishes with very good quality

Great varied food with very good service. Everyone was very dedicated. We were truly very surprised by this high standard of food. The afternoon snack was also really recommendable. Great selection of cakes and also small dishes.

Room rates are UTOPIAN for performance. Unfortunately, I absolutely cannot leave a good review for this hotel. There is absolutely no child suitability (which is fine if it is clearly communicated that no children are wanted). Generally very elderly audience and also not very friendly staff (very friendly was the cleaning lady!!). When eating, whether breakfast or dinner, people asked for drinks exactly once at the beginning; afterwards they had to run after the waiter:inside with wishes. Furthermore, you had the feeling of being a burden to the staff all the time. There was always an annoyed look, a snippy answer or an "eye-over." Dinner went from 6:30-7:45 p.m. (never experienced such a tight time span). At 8:30 p.m., with three families still sitting at table, the lights were completely turned off in one half of the restaurant and fully on in the other, so that it felt like being in the club at "ejection" at 5 a.m. At 10:30 p.m., the entire hotel was pitch dark and when my sister went to the door for a phone call, she was snapped at by a man, which she is still doing here so late. My sister-in-law became ill with gastrointestinal problems at night and it was not possible to meet staff for a piece of dry bread until 7:30 a.m. Furthermore, it is offered to use the wellness area until 15:00 on the day of departure - but the information that the pool does not open until 14:00 was not found on the website. Our choice of hotel has sometimes been based on the fact that the children can still go to the pool and play on the day of departure. I would highly recommend the Poppengut to identify the hotel as "Adults only".
I normally don't write bad reviews and I understand a lot of things especially within the gastronomy and hotel industry, as I come from this industry myself and have also worked in the hotel but this stay was really not pleasant from front to back and it didn't feel like we were welcome as guests.
