Bali's answer to Thailand's Pattaya, demonstrating what happens to a once-beautiful stretch of coast once the tackiest western tourists descend on it. The whole place is like one giant neanderthal stag night, with matching entertainment like dwarf boxing and transvestites doing something unspeakable with ping pong balls. We booked one night here simply because it's close (about 20 minutes' drive) to the airport and thankfully the house we took was like a little oasis insulated from the horrors outside. Thankfully not every visitor to the place wants to make it like a low-rent Trump casino, so if you want to explore its redeeming features best to head out early and retire to your sanctuary before the party crowd wakes up.
Least favourite place in Bali. Dirty beach, cheap places, full of white trash
Kuta is a busy beachside town in the south of Bali. It's a major tourist hub so expect lots of western restaurants and merchant stalls.
Kuta is arguably most touristy part of Bali. Be careful not to get ripped off when shopping because they will definitely try to do that if they know you're a foreigner. Apparently there are lots of bars and clubs though!
