Cumbaya is a small suburb or neighborhood of Quito, located 16 km southeast from downtown. Still considered a rural community, the valley village enjoys a small population and a warmer climate than Quito. Most of the 30,000 inhabitants are upper-class professionals between the ages of 20 and 60. The neighborhood is characterized by outdoor trails and parks, shopping centers, and a vibrant culinary scene.
Cumbaya has grown from a quiet suburb village of Quito to a modern metropolis in it's own right. The charming downtown has developed towards an exclusive market, bringing exciting new restaurants, bars and shops to the traditional Spanish setting. With the new airport located well outside of the city, there is almost no need to go into Quito if you're just spending the night on a layover to somewhere else. Consider Cumbaya instead - it's closer and has everything you need in terms of dining and nightlife to make for an enjoyable stay.
