A very nice and unique beach town in the Manabi province. The beach is small but picturesque with a cute lighthouse, shallow tide pools, and warm waters. A very clean small city, known for its ecotourism efforts. Here, there are no plastic bags allowed. It is very modern with many high-rise beachfront condos, nice hotels, a boardwalk, and decent park for little kids. These are also a modern mall and a stunning bridge that crosses the bay.
Unique on Ecuador's coast, Bahia is deceptively small yet looks like a small city. It was well developed for tourism in the 80s and 90s, but just never seemed to reach the mark it was striving for. A major earthquake is partially to blame, but I'd say that a bigger reason is that with endless tracks of deserted beaches in every direction, it's just not that big of a draw to come to one crazy little cluster of highrises, concrete and seawall-hardened coastline. Nice ceviche restaurants though!
