The cathedral faced several renovations, most notably after the eruption of Mayon volcano in 1841. In 1951, the church was elevated to become the Episcopal Seat of the Diocese of Legazpi. Be sure to visit the Diocesan Museum located in the complex of the cathedral.

Built in 1587, this Franciscan church was burned down by Dutch pirates in 1636. Francisco Blanco rebuilt it in 1724 but was destroyed again along with the town of Cagsawa in February 1814 during the eruption of Mayon Volcano.
