When is the best time to visit New Delhi?

New Delhi experiences humid subtropical climate, influenced by monsoon. From April to October is a long summer where the temperature may rise to 46º C. Monsoon generally occurs midsummer, between July to September. However, the weather is cooler and crisp in autumn, especially in October and November, making it the best moment to visit New Delhi. Those who prefer warmer season can also plan their holiday post-winter, between February and April.

There are several events held annually in New Delhi. However, one of the most prominent ones is Holi Festival, held in March. In this fun, wild festival, people can mingle together and throw colorful powders (known as gulal) and water at each other. Traditional drinks and sweets are also common to serve during this festival.

Another festival that should not be missed is the Festival of Lights, known as Diwali, celebrated in October or November. Streets in New Delhi look vibrant, decorated with lanterns and flowers. Jama Masjid has some relics of Muhammad and can accommodate more than 25,000 people.

India Gate

Situated at the center of New Delhi, India Gate is a war memorial built in 1921. A memorial to Indian Army soldier who died in the First World War, India Gate is one of the most-visited monuments in New Delhi. Evoking triumphal arch style, this grandiose monument is often put in comparison to Gateway of India in Mumbai and Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Lodi Gardens

Stretching for over 360,000 square meters, Lodi Garden is a lush, peaceful oasis located nearby Lodhi Estate. This park has picturesque domes and several tombs, including Mohammed Shah’ and Sikandar Lodi's. Featuring scenic gardens and spacious lake, Lodi Gardens is locals' favorite for strolling.
