Where to go
Orcas Island has its share of destinations and sights that travelers may visit. The Orcas Island Historical Museum is one. The Orcas Island Historical Museum is located down town Eastsound and is the only object-based, interpretive heritage facility in the island, with a permanent collection of 6,000 objects, paper documents, and photographs. The island is also home to three historic camps, namely the Camp Orkila, Four Winds Westward Ho, and Camp Indaralaya, and plays host to the small and private Lambiel Museum, which is the home to a collection of works inspired by the San Juan Islands, including works by Helen Loggie. The most important sight here perhaps is the Moran State Park. The Moran State Park is a Washington state park located on Orcas Island, encompassing some 5,000 acres of forest, much of it old growth. It is also the largest public recreation area in the San Juan Islands, where both visitors and locals can hike, bike, ride a horse, boat, and camp. It is also the park protecting Mount Constitution, which stands as the focal point of the park. Road and hiking trails lead to the top of the mountain – where a 360-degree view of the region's mountain and marine geography, can be seen.
From West Sound, fly to the largest city of Washington state, which is Seattle. This coastal seaport city is home to the Seattle Great Wheel, one of the largest Ferris wheels in the United States and is a major attraction on the city’s waterfront at Pier 57. Recreation areas within the city include Rainer Beach, Van Asselt, Jefferson, Green Lake, Laurelhurst, Loyal Heights, and Meadowbrook. There are also the Woodland Park Zoo and the Seattle Aquarium.
