London Heathrow Airport

London Heathrow Airport is a colossal giant sprawled across 1,200 hectares. Its five terminals, with a newly revamped Terminal 2 which was opened in 2014, caters to 82 airlines, and serves passengers to and from 180 locations in 85 countries. Industry heavyweights like British Airways, Etihad Airways, Lufthansa, United Airlines, fly close to 200,000 passengers in and out of Heathrow a day.


Getting around the airport is pretty straight-forward. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are within walking distance of each other, each will only take you about 10 minutes. To get from the first three terminals to terminals 4 and 5, you can either take the Heathrow Express or the London Underground. Note that traveling via London Underground requires an Oyster Card (Transport Pass-card). To get from Terminal 4 to 5 or vice versa, not only are the Heathrow Express and London Underground available, you have a third option of taking buses 490 and 482.

In the Arrival Hall, you will be able to satisfy any need for food and refreshments with the number of restaurants and cafes available. You will also be able to buy any travel essentials as well as duty-free merchandise at all terminals.

If you are departing from London Heathrow, maybe you will want to hit one of the Massage and Beauty therapies they have available at some terminals. If you have a connecting flight at Heathrow, Terminals 3 and 4 are also equipped with a small hotel as well as bedrooms to cater to your needs. If you are traveling with children, Heathrow Airport is equipped with facilities and services catering to your needs and convenience. Located at Departure Area, Terminal 3, you will find a Family Lounge equipped with play areas, children’s quiet room, game zone, and even comfortable seats for adults. All other terminals have play areas, baby changing rooms, as well as children friendly restaurants in the Departure Hall as well.

Cash Machines are available before and after security, at every terminal, accept UK bank and major credit cards.

To help you remain connected while traveling, Heathrow Airport not only has payphones, but also offers mobile phone rental services for your use for the duration of your stay. SIM cards are also for sale. You will also be able to find Charging Points to charge your mobile phones for free both before and after security, at all terminals. 

If you need to freshen up, showers are available at Terminal 3 departure area for a small fee. Multi-faith prayer rooms and designated smoking points are available at all terminals.

There are a number of hotels at Heathrow Airport, including Hilton London Heathrow, should you need to find a place to rest. If you do not wish to stay at the airport itself, there are also a handful of hotels near Heathrow.
