New York John F. Kennedy Airport

Commercial flights began flying out of Idlewild Airport, the original John F. Kennedy Airport, in 1948. It was only in 1963 that the airport was rededicated to the 35th President of the United States of America, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. What was a mere 1,000 acres on paper grew into a 5,000-acre international airport with the capacity of 80 million visitors.

Terminals

This airport 15-miles away from midtown Manhattan has 6 operating terminals (1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8), and served more than 50 million visitors in 2013. Terminal 3 is closed and terminal 6 was demolished. This international airport plays host to a consortium of airlines that include Air France, Air New Zealand, British Airways, and Singapore Airlines. More than 100 airlines connect 315 cities to New York John F. Kennedy Airport.

To move between terminals, passengers can use the JFK AirTrain. Operating 24 hours a day all year round, the AirTrain is a free-to-use mode of transport that will take you anywhere between the six terminals.

The arrival and departure areas sport landscaping that brings a sense of comfort and ease to the fast pace of an international airport. In the departure area you will also find a wide array of duty-free shopping that will meet your every need and want.

Services and Facilities

Both pre and post security, you will find an amazing range of restaurants bringing you everything from donuts, to coffee, to fast-food, to beer – basically anything one could possibly crave for pre and post flight.

Wi-Fi is available across all terminals and come in different packages to cater to your needs. The airport charges a small fee per hour for a Pay As You Go package. A Day Pass package ensures you unlimited usage for a period of 24 hours. Finally, the Unlimited Access package, which comes with a monthly subscription, and offers you unlimited usage at over 100, 000 hotspots worldwide.

If money matters are your primary concern while traveling, you will be glad to know JFK international has currency exchange and banking facilities throughout all their terminals.

At every terminal you will also find facilities and services catering to passengers on business. If you find yourself in the need of meeting rooms, faxes, phones, printing and copying services, you can easily locate them. Note that in some terminals, these services and facilities are only available within airline lounges.

If you find yourself in need of a quiet place for religious reasons, you will find an Interfaith Chapel at the airport. Mutual respect between passengers of different faiths is expected.

A 24 hour Medical Office is available near the airport seven days a week should you find yourself less than perfectly healthy, and wish for medical care. Approach an information booth and enquire about the shuttle service that will take you to building 22A where the Medical Office is located.

If you find yourself a little lost in this giant of an international airport, you will always be able to find an information booth near you with directions and information for any kind of enquiry you might have about the airport. Conveniently located at multiple points in every terminal, before and after security, they will be very hard to miss.
