Having newly opened back in 2007, Iloilo International Airport is said to be of the most modern airports in the Philippines, resembling Hong Kong International Airport.
Iloilo International Airport has two terminals, one for passengers and one for cargo. The passenger terminal is able to service 1.6 million visitors annually. Airlines to fly to this airport include Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airline, Tigerair Philippines, Southeast Asia Airlines, Tiger Air and AirAsia.
It is easy to navigate around the passenger terminal. On the first floor is arrivals and baggage claim. The second floor is for check-in and third for departures. There is also a pre-departure hall on the third floor with a capacity for 436 passengers.
There are three passenger boarding bridges, one each for departing and arriving passengers and a gang-way separating them.
Passengers are required to pay a terminal fee (Airport User Tax) in cash after check-in at P200 per passenger for domestic departures and P550 for international departures.
Services and Facilities
As mentioned, Iloilo International airport is equipped with modern facilities. There are 10 check-in counters with LCD monitors and individual weighing and queuing conveyors. For security purposes, close-circuit televisions are installed. There is also a flight information display system.
General services include smoking rooms, car rental desks, hotel bookings desks, Mabuhay lounges for Philippine Airlines business class departing passengers and VIP room. There is also a lost and found section and Duty-Free shopping for passengers. While there is no free internet access, public telephone booths are available if you wish to contact your family and friends. This airport is also handicap-friendly, with railings, elevators, escalators for the handicapped.
If you are traveling with children, there is a play room for kids. Pocket Gardens at the terminal allow you to unwind before you depart or when you arrive. There are also massage rooms if you want to be pampered.
Most hotels are located in Iloilo City, 30 minutes’ drive away from the airport with the nearest hotel Vista Inn within 20 minutes’ drive from the airport. A drawback about this airport, however, is that it only opens at 4am daily.
