Hong Kong International Airport

The Hongkong International Airport (HKIA), locally known as the Chek Lap Kok Airport, is one of the world's busiest airports in terms of passenger traffic.  In 2010, the airport connected more than 50 million passengers to about 150 destinations, including 40 in the Mainland China, by an estimated 900 daily flights via over 100 airlines. Commencing operations in 1998 as a replacement to the old  Kai Tak Airport, the Hongkong International Airport has been recognized as one of the best airports in the world. It has been awarded Airport of the Year by Skytrax World in 2011.

HKIA is managed by the Airport Authority Hongkong and is a primary hub for major airline Cathay Pacific. It is also the hub for DragonAir (sister airline of Cathay Pacific), Hongkong Express Airways and Hongkong Airlines.

Hongkong International Airport is one of the most expensive airports in the world, costing about $50 billion. There has been developments and upgrades that were added in the recent years. Facilities that were completed include the Terminal 2, 10 new cargo stands, the HKIA Tower, the Airport World Trade Centre and the new SkyPier.
