Delhi International Airport, India

Delhi International Airport, known officially as Indira Gandhi International Airport after the former Prime Minister of India, serves as the main gateway to the region of Delhi in India. Located about 10 miles from New Delhi, it is the busiest airport in the country, with one of the world’s largest passenger terminals.

The Airport is made up of two operating terminals, with the remaining not currently in use. Terminal 1 is divided into 1C and 1D; 1C only processes domestic arrivals, and 1D handles domestic departures to cities including Bangalore, Mumbai, and Dubai. Terminal 3 operates domestic and international flights, with destinations such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Paris, Chicago, Beijing, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Singapore.

The DIAL shuttle bus is a complimentary passenger service that connects Terminal 1 and 3.  It runs on a frequency of 20 minutes. Indigo, Spice Jet, and Go Air fly from Terminal 1D to Terminal 1C, and Air India, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Jet Lite, Jet Konnect, and Kingfisher airlines connect to Terminal 3. Passengers can also utilize the free golf cart services to zip around the Airport grounds.

As Arrivals and Departures for Terminal 1 are separated into 1C and 1D (respectively), they are both situated on the ground floor of each terminal. For Terminal 3, the Arrival hall is located on the first floor, and departures on the second floor.

Services and Facilities

Both terminals are populated with a rich collection of shopping and dining options for all travelers. From gift shops to high-end jewelers, vendors here can meet every visitor’s needs. There are also spas, game zones, children’s play areas, and bars to keep passengers and their families entertained and occupied.

Foot massagers are also available after security hold to rejuvenate passengers before their flights. The Ishana store in the International Departures area of Terminal 3 offers an interesting treat for all senses – whether you’re seeking out a relaxing spa, a rejuvenating yoga session, antique Indian spices, rare publications on Indian arts, sciences, and culture, or live traditional dance and craft demonstrations, Ishana provides a relieving and enchanting way of passing the time at Delhi Airport.

Televisions also pepper various spots around the Airport, with seats for easy and comfortable viewing. All areas of the Airport are WiFi enabled, offering free internet access.

For medical needs, a pharmacy is located in Terminals 1C, 1D, and both  departure and arrival areas of Terminal 3. ATMs and currency exchanges are also located across all terminals, and Terminal 1D has a laptop workstation for passengers who need to catch up with work.

Childcare rooms, or parents’ rooms, are also available at all terminals for families with small children. If you need to spend an extended period of time at Delhi Airport, you may rent sleeping pods located in the International Departure Piers in Terminal 3, opposite Gate 17; purchase a comfortable stay at one of the five premium lounges in Terminal 3; or spend the hours at the airport hotel, located in the Domestic wing of Terminal 3.
