Peninsula Airways, or more commonly known as PenAir, is a privately-owned regional airline based in Anchorage, Alaska. Considered the second largest commuter airline in the state of Alaska, PenAir offers scheduled passenger flights, charter flights, medevac services and cargo services. It has been operating since 1955. PenAir is based at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, and it also operated from its hubs at Portland International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, and Denver International Airport. PenAir also has a code-share agreement with Alaska Airlines.

Check In Guide

You have the option to either check-in at the airport or check-in from the comfort of your home before going to the airport. Online check-in service is available from 24 hours to 2 hours before scheduled departure time. Passengers need to print out the boarding pass that will be sent via email as mobile boarding passes are not accepted. If you forgot to print out your boarding pass, you could have one printed at the airport counter. It is recommended to be at the check-in counters at least 90 minutes before scheduled flight departure time as the PenAir ticket counters will close 40 minutes before scheduled flight departure time.

Seating Guide

The PenAir fleet features Swedish-made Saab commuter aircraft exclusively. The Saab 340s and the Saab 2000 are suitable for all of PenAir’s short haul flights. The aircraft are all single-cabin types, with comfortable 18" wide e-leather seats and meal-tray tables. Meanwhile, seats in the front rows of the aircraft have more legroom.

Baggage Allowance

Each passenger is allowed one personal item such as a purse, or laptop computer on board the aircraft and one carry-on bag with a maximum weight of 11 kilograms. These must be able to fit underneath the chair or in the overhead bin. Passengers traveling on flights within Alaska will get one complimentary checked baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kilograms and a maximum overall dimension of 158 cm. Passengers going to other destinations will have to pay USD25 for each checked bag for the first two bags and USD75 for the third piece of baggage.

In flight Service

F&B: Complimentary snacks and soft drinks are offered on all PenAir flights, even for the short 45-minute flights. Alcoholic drinks are not allowed to be consumed on PenAir flights.

Entertainment: There is no audio-video entertainment on board the flights. The airline has an in-flight magazine, DoNorth which has interesting travel articles on the region as well as some kids' pages with puzzles and games. PenAir also carries the Alaska Airlines in-flight magazine on selected flights.
